Yeah, absolutely!! It's a super popular folklore from home. Apparently, an old man asked three different animals to bring him some food. The fox and monkey brought him what they could find but the bunny was like 'hey I'm food!' and tossed themselves into the fire. The old guy (who really was a god) was so impressed he hired bunny-chan to live on the moon and make mochi.
More like it was a metaphorical fire? I don't think any bunnies were actually harmed in the making of the myth. But it totally got swindled into free labor!
